About Me

Hong Kenny

Hello, I am Kenny Hong! I am currently pursuing a M. Sc in Computer Science at the University of Manitoba. It has been an amazing journey so far and I absolutely love interacting with the students and professionals in this field. There are many opportunities to learn and to explore new things in the this field of study and that is what keeps me interested.

Although technology is a big part of my life, I also have a passion for music. I am a chorister for a choir called Prairie Voices, the rehearsals are always energizing and the performances are always exhilarating.

Canadian University Software Engineering Conference (CUSEC)

CUSEC is one of the best experiences relating to my degree so far, I was able to network with not only companies but also with other students who have the same passion for software like me. As a Head Delegate in 2015, I was tasked to bring students from the University of Manitoba to Montreal for a three day conference on Software Engineering. It was challenging at first, but there were students who were extremely motivated to go. It went from 8 students to 12 students and our final number was 20 students for that year before tickets to the conference were sold out. After the conference, we generated a very large interest to go to CUSEC in 2017.

This year, I am the Director of Sponsorship, and I have some big shoes to fill. Stay tuned to my blog for some posts related to this in the future!

My life is not just about keyboards and code, on my Monday evenings and some Wednesday evenings, I commit some time to one of my favourite hobbies with some of my favourite people. Every week, I get to rehearse and sing with 40 talented and passionate individuals. Together we perform not only our own concerts, but also with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra where we perform events such as the Sci-Fi Spectacular and Home Alone Live. I also had the opportunity to tour the Baltic States with this amazing choir.
